VANCE CHARTER SCHOOL JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE:  Athletic Bus Driver

• SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

-All drivers must possess the required licenses for driving- NC Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License with bus certification S and P endorsement

-Driver must obey all applicable traffic laws

-Drivers will not operate a bus while using a mobile telephone or device while the bus is in motion unless it is for communicating an emergency situation

-Pre-trip inspection of the bus prior to route is required by driver and reporting concerns to the bus coordinator 

-Make reasonable efforts to maintain good order of the students being transported

-Drivers will not allow any person to ride the bus who does not have prior approval by the principal or designated official

-Must immediately report any accident to the bus coordinator or principal

-Drivers must report to the principal immediately any moving violations or citations that have been received while operating a school vehicle

-Drivers must report to the principal immediately any moving violations or citations that have been received while operating a personal/non-insured school vehicle

-Secure the assigned bus before leaving the parked vehicle by securing all windows and doors

-A driver is prohibited from operating a bus while using any non-schedule I drug that is identified in the other federal schedules of controlled drugs unless such use is pursuant to the instructions of a licensed medical practitioner who is familiar with the driver’s medical history and has advised the driver that use of the substance will not adversely affect the driver’s ability to safely operate a vehicle

-Drivers must consent to annual background checks and random drug and alcohol screening as required in 49 C.F.R. pt. 382

-Compliance with G.S. 20-138.2B and VCS Board Policy 7021 is required, no consumption of alcohol by driver
